Buying small kitchen appliances on eBay to sell on Amazon

MarginPing does not watch kitchen appliances yet. This page is a how-to guide only. Power tools and tool kits are the category MarginPing supports.

Small kitchen appliances (blenders, air fryers, stand mixers, coffee makers, pressure cookers) are sold on Amazon by model number, and the same model often appears on eBay. If you sell them on Amazon, every purchase comes down to whether the listing is exactly your item.

This guide shows how to check by hand. MarginPing does not support kitchen appliances, so nothing here describes a MarginPing feature for this category.

Why model numbers decide the match

A kitchen appliance title on eBay is usually a brand and a product name, such as a Ninja air fryer or a KitchenAid stand mixer. That is not enough to match an Amazon item. Brands sell many models with near-identical names, and the difference is in the model number printed on the box or the rating label.

  • Same name, different model. Two blenders from one brand can share a product name and differ by one letter or digit in the model number, with different motors, pitchers or accessories.
  • Retailer-exclusive models. Some models are made for one store, with a model number that differs slightly from the main line. Check the number, not the name.
  • Year and generation. A newer release often keeps the name of the older one. The model number is what tells them apart.

New, open box and refurbished

Condition changes the Amazon item you can list against. eBay sellers use several words for it, and they do not all mean the same thing.

  • New or sealed. In the original packaging, never opened. This is the form most Amazon new listings assume.
  • Open box. Opened, and it may be missing pieces. Check the photos and the description for what is included.
  • Seller refurbished or manufacturer refurbished. Not the same as new. Amazon has its own rules for used and refurbished listings, and some categories and brands are restricted. Read Amazon's current rules for your account before you buy.
  • For parts or not working. Not the item you sell, whatever the title says.

Color variants

Many small appliances come in several colors, and Amazon often lists each color as its own item with its own price. A listing for a black unit does not match your red ASIN, even when the model is otherwise the same.

Watch for two traps. Some sellers list several colors in one listing, so the color field shows a long list and the photo shows one unit. Others type a color in the title that disagrees with the UPC. In both cases, look at the photos and the item specifics before you buy.

Bundles, accessories and multi-packs

A listing that adds extras to the appliance (a second pitcher, a set of attachments, a free accessory) is a different item from the bare unit you sell. Count what is in the photos and the description, and compare it with what your Amazon listing includes.

Before you buy

Buying on eBay to sell on Amazon can add risk to your Amazon account. Items bought on eBay come with eBay order records, not retail invoices, and some sellers report that Amazon asked for invoices during an account review. We cannot promise how Amazon will treat your account. Keep every receipt, read Amazon's current rules for your category, and start small. This is not legal advice.
