eBay is a deep source of OEM auto parts, from dismantlers, repair shops and private owners. If you sell parts on Amazon, every purchase comes down to one question: is this exactly the part on your Amazon listing?
This guide shows how to answer it by hand. MarginPing does not support auto parts, so nothing here describes a MarginPing feature for this category.
Why the part number decides everything
Two parts can look identical and fit different vehicles. A bracket for one trim level can carry a different number from the same-looking bracket for another. A title may say "fits 2015 to 2019" with a list of vehicles, but the number on the part is the fact.
That makes the part number the match key, much like the model number on a power tool. Our guide on reading power tool model numbers makes the same point for tools.
OEM, aftermarket and used
- OEM. Made by or for the vehicle maker, carrying the maker's part number. New OEM parts in original packaging are the cleanest match.
- Aftermarket. Made by a third party to fit the same vehicles. It has its own brand and number and is a different Amazon item from the OEM part.
- Used. Taken from another vehicle. It may carry the OEM number but be worn, and Amazon restricts used parts in many cases.
Sellers mix these words freely. "Genuine" can mean OEM, or a part that came off a vehicle of that brand. Look for the number, the packaging and the photos. Remanufactured and rebuilt parts are a fourth group with their own condition rules, so check Amazon's rules for your category before you buy.
Part numbers and fitment caveats
- Superseded numbers. Makers replace part numbers over time. A newer number can stand in for an older one, or it can mark a changed part. Look up the supersession in the maker's catalog before you treat two numbers as the same part.
- Formatting. Dashes, spaces and trailing letters are written differently from one seller to the next. Search the number more than one way, then confirm on the part itself.
- Fitment. A part number says what the part is. It does not promise it fits a given vehicle. Your Amazon listing carries its own fitment data, and you are responsible for it.
Fees and size
Referral fees differ by category, and automotive parts have their own rate. Confirm the current rate in Seller Central before you rely on any number. Heavy and bulky parts can also carry higher fulfillment fees, so check the size tier for each part.
Amazon price for the part - Amazon referral and fulfillment fees - eBay asking price - eBay shipping to you = profit, before your own costs and taxes
Records and risk
Buying on eBay to sell on Amazon can add risk. Items bought on eBay come with eBay order records, not retail invoices, and some sellers report that Amazon asked for invoices during an account review. We cannot promise how Amazon will treat your account. Keep every receipt and start small. This is not legal advice.

Questions
Does MarginPing support auto parts?
No, not yet. MarginPing supports power tools and tool kits. This page is a manual guide for parts sellers.
How do I look up an OEM part number?
Use the vehicle maker's parts catalog or a dealer parts desk, and compare the number with the one on the part in the photos.
Does a matching part number mean the part fits?
No. The number says what the part is. Fitment depends on the vehicle, and your Amazon listing's fitment data is your responsibility.
What is a superseded part number?
A number the maker has replaced with a newer one. Sometimes the part is the same and sometimes it changed, so check the maker's catalog before you treat them as one part.
